Collection: Surf Lessons

Surf Lessons will resume after June 11, 2026.

$100 per person for 75 minutes- 9ft soft top surfboard provided

North side of the Indian River Inlet Bridge- a few miles from our shop

During your Surf Lesson, we show you all the basic surfing fundamentals, as well as touch on ocean awareness, water safety, wave riding skills and general surf etiquette. We start off your Lesson with board pick up in the parking lot of the North Side of the Indian River Inlet Bridge (your instructor can't carry all the boards down to the beach by himself!)

Once you make it onto the beach, we proceed with drills on the sand - learning how to "pop up" on your board, foot placement, etc.- then we get you in the water! We teach you how to paddle out and into the waves, and most of our surfers get the hang of surfing pretty quickly. In this case, surfers get to enjoy the remaining time in their lesson catching waves!

How do I schedule? 📲

All Surf Lessons are scheduled around the waves and weather conditions, allowing us to choose the best surfing waves. Because of this, we do not schedule Surf Lessons more than (approximately) one week in advance.

Get on our schedule by texting us during the week of your availability!

☀️ Text (302)-227-8288 and ask about Surf Lesson availability

☀️ Include what days you are available to surf

☀️ Include how many people will be surfing

We will text you back with our availability by date and time. We typically conduct Surf Lessons once per day (each lesson with up to 6 surfers). Due to a high influx of Surf Lesson requests, we cannot offer Private Surf Lessons.

We schedule around the waves and weather conditions to choose the best surfing waves. Please be aware that Surf Lessons can be as early as 9am or as late as 6pm... it will all depend on the tides!

Please do not submit payments until after Dewey Beach Surf Shop has confirmed your Surf Lesson via text. Payments received without Surf Lesson confirmation from Dewey Beach Surf Shop will be refunded, minus our 8% processing fee.

All Surf Lessons are 75 minutes long.

How many other people will be at my Surf Lesson?

There may be up to five other people in your Surf Lesson including yourself. Everyone gets their own board. What do I bring to my Surf Lesson?

Just yourself and a good attitude! We only provide the soft top surfboard with a leash attached for the duration of your Surf Lesson.

Should you want or need a rash guard, wet suit, or any other items, that is something you would be responsible for bringing. Dewey Beach Surf Shop does not have any wetsuits or rash guards in stock at this time.

Keep in mind that you are welcome to enjoy the beach before and/or after your Surf Lesson! The Indian River Inlet Bridge area hosts 2 restaurants- Big Chill Beach Club and Dockside Marina Bar & Grill. State Park Campgrounds and the Indian River Marina are nearby.

Stop by Dewey Beach Surf Shop for beach essentials: sunscreen, beach towels, hats and more!
